Meaning of Dua (Prayer):
Dua is when the supplicant asks for what benefits them and removes their harm. Its essence is to express the need for Allah, disavow reliance on one's own power and ability, and it is a characteristic of servitude and a sense of human humility. It also entails praising Allah and adding generosity and kindness to Him.

Dua is obedience to Allah and compliance with His command. Allah says: "And your Lord says, 'Call upon Me; I will respond to you.' Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible." [Quran 40:60]

Dua is an act of worship. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Dua is worship." [Narrated by At-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, and authenticated by Al-Albani]

Dua is the most honorable thing to Allah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "There is nothing more honorable to Allah than supplication." [Narrated by Ahmad, Al-Bukhari, Ibn Majah, At-Tirmidhi, Al-Hakim, and authenticated by Adh-Dhahabi]

Dua is a means to ward off the anger of Allah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever does not ask Allah, He becomes angry with him." [Narrated by At-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, and authenticated by Al-Hakim and Adh-Dhahabi]

Dua is a safeguard against helplessness and a sign of intelligence. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "The most incapable person is the one who is incapable of supplication, and the most miserly person is the one who withholds peace." [Narrated by Ibn Hibban and authenticated by Al-Albani]

Dua is a means to alleviate calamities. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "When one of you has the door of supplication opened for him, the doors of mercy are opened for him, and whatever Allah is asked for, it is dearer to Him than being asked for well-being. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, 'Indeed, supplication benefits what has descended and what has not yet descended, so O servants of Allah, supplicate.'" [Narrated by At-Tirmidhi and graded as Hasan (good) by Al-Albani]

The supplicant is in the company of Allah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Allah says, 'I am as My servant thinks I am, and I am with him when he remembers Me.'" [Narrated by Muslim]

The virtue of supplicating in prostration. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "The closest that a servant is to his Lord is when he is in prostration, so increase your supplications." [Narrated by Muslim]

The virtue of supplicating for fellow Muslims in absentia. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "There is no Muslim who supplicates for his brother in his absence, except that the angels say, 'May you have the same.'" [Narrated by Muslim]
