Amman Chamber of Industry… A Pioneering Institution Serving the National Industry
The Amman Chamber of Industry commenced its journey in September of 1962. At the time the number of members was less than 100 industrial companies, and after the passage of more than half a century since its establishment, the Amman Chamber of Industry has around 9424 industrial entities as members which employ 155 thousand male and female workers with a total capital in excess of 3.7 billion Jordan Dinars. In reality the role of the Amman Chamber of Industry and its achievements over the years, goes far beyond its traditional functions manifested in issuing certificates of origin for industrial products, certifying invoices and representing the interests of industrialists and safeguarding them with competent quarters, notwithstanding the importance of those elements; but we could also speak of the economic and societal role that the Chamber of Industry performed through which it made a significant contribution to the growth and expansion of the Jordanian economy, in general, and the industrial sector in particular.
The Amman Chamber of Industry has since its inception striven to organize the industrial sector in Jordan and to foster the emergence of the diverse industrial sectors. Moreover, the Chamber collaborated with the governmental quarters concerned with the legislations and regulations affecting industry, and the Chamber likewise launched numerous programs, activities and training courses with the aim of fostering the competiveness of this sector and improving it. And in response to the initiatives of His Majesty King Abdullah the Second (God protect him) including an enhanced creation of economic and developmental zones in the governorates, with a view to redistribute the dividends of development and to have a more even and fairer allocation of investments between the governorates to increase rates of growth and to continually generate new job opportunities, the Amman Chamber of Industry opened offices in the governorates of Karak, Ma`an and Aqaba, to facilitate matters for industrialists and to save their time and effort.
As regards the role of the Amman Chamber of Industry in supporting, developing and enhancing the competiveness of the industrial sector, the Chamber has over the previous years launched its strategy and ambitious plans aiming to improve Jordanian industries in the technical, scientific and administrative domains, in addition to domestic promotion coupled with building export capacities in both regional and world markets.
In fact, the Chamber has organized a constellation of technical and financial assistance domains for its members covering major axes of which we may mention:
Quality, environment and safety, and local and international conformity certificates.
Energy, where the Chamber launched a program through which financial assistance was offered to a number of factories to purchase renewable energy systems.
Connectivity between the industrial sector, Jordanian universities, industrial innovation and technology transfer.
Industrial guidance and consulting.
Local and international promotion and marketing.
Awareness creation and training.
Based on the recognition of the Chamber of the importance of exhibitions for promoting national industry and augmenting its exports, while highlighting the advanced level that it attained, it organized numerous industrial exhibitions over the years, and was likewise keen to encourage and support the participation of industrialists in regional and international exhibitions, whether in pavilions introducing their industries and seeking new markets, or as visitors to become acquainted with the latest production lines necessary to improve their products.
