Get plugged in to creative online activities and games. Created for Georgia Power’s Learning Power program, this Energy Efficiency Tool, geared towards all ages (elementary, middle and high school students and their parents and teachers), delivers fun, interactive learning on energy efficiency.
The Learning Power Energy Efficiency Tool allows the player to estimate energy use and cost for appliances and equipment found in a home. The player can choose a room in a house, select an appliance, amount of time the appliance is used, and then see the estimated cost of running the equipment. The player will see which appliances use more energy and the cumulative impact of their choices. As important, the player will learn that by modifying behavior throughout the home, they can impact the amount of electricity they use and money they spend on their electric bill. Even little changes can make a difference in saving electricity and money.
Learning Power, Georgia Power’s signature education program, electrifies classrooms with engaging lessons on energy and energy efficiency. Learning Power challenges students to think about energy and their environment in new ways while increasing awareness of careers in the energy industry. Since kick off in 2011, Learning Power has reached over 900,00 students across the state of Georgia. Aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence in science and math, interactive labs and creative class activities amp up STEM learning and career exploration.
Education Coordinators deliver hands-on, STEM-based energy and energy efficiency lessons at all grade levels, PreK through high school. The Learning Power program strives to contribute to student’s academic achievement, educate students on energy efficiency in school and at home and build awareness around careers I n the energy industry. This partnership with Georgia educators delivers engaging personal connections with science and math. The programs, lesson plans, and activities are provided at no cost to teachers or schools.
