Laundry Timer is a weather app and timer dedicated to making the most of the weather when drying your clothes outside. It estimates how long your laundry will take to dry based on local weather conditions and helps you plan when are the best times / days to hang your clothes out to dry. It takes into account temperature, solar energy, humidity, wind speed and cloud cover.
Save energy and reduce wear and tear on your clothes by drying them outside more often.
Features include:
- Multiple timers to reflect the drying rates of different fabric types (from light fabrics such as sheets to heavy fabrics such as towels).
- Three day drying rate forecast (upgradable to 7 days) showing changes in the estimated drying rate throughout each day.
- Future drying time estimates: check how long your washing will take to dry for future times / days
- Alerts when your laundry is estimated to be dry.
- Warnings about adverse conditions such as rain or high gusts of wind.
- Charts showing how dry your laundry items are estimated to be at a given time.
- Settings to calibrate the timers to better suit our own laundry items.
Laundry Timer can be useful all year round:
❄️ Autumn / Winter: Laundry Timer can be particularly useful in cooler conditions when it can be hard to judge how long it will take for your laundry to dry.
- Use the app help you find the best days to plan a wash, and find out how early you need to put your clothes out for them to be dry by the end of the day.
- Laundry can still dry on cold days, given the right conditions. But even if your laundry is unlikely to be fully dry by the end of the day, you can use the app to estimate how dry it is likely to get. This way you can reduce drying costs by partially drying your laundry outside, before putting it in the dryer to finish the job. To do this tap the relevant fabric type to view the chart. From here you can look up time you want to bring your laundry in, to see how dry it is estimated to be at that time.
☀️ Spring / Summer: On warm sunny days you don’t always need much help in determining whether or not your laundry will dry. However Laundry Timer can still be useful:
- If you’re planning to hang out your laundry later in the day, it’s not always obvious your clothes will be dry in time. Use laundry Timer to determine if there is enough time to put a late wash on. To do this, tap the timer icon on the current day of the Forecast tab, then drag the slider to the appropriate time (based on how long your wash cycle is). You can then see the estimated drying times for that time.
- It’s best not to leave bright or dark coloured fabrics out in direct sunlight for too long to avoid them fading. Use laundry timer to remind you when your clothes are likely to be dry so they don't need to be out longer than necessary. You can also turn fabrics inside out to keep colours vibrant.
- If you have multiple loads of washing to get through and limited drying space, you can use Laundry Timer to help judge when to put a new load of washing on. That way you can time washes so the previous load is dry by the time the next load is ready to hang out.
