The app will calculate the amount of money to load onto a NYC MTA MetroCard, when using an MTA Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) or MTA Booth Clerk, based on the cards current balance to achieve a zero balance on its last swipe. It will take into account Ticket Vending Machine reload restrictions.
NOTE: Money can only be loaded on a MetroCard via an MTA Ticket Vending Machine or at an MTA Booth.
When using the app, enter the current balance, if any, on the card and select the Fare type.
- Displayed list shows the "Reload" amount to achieve the number of rides.
- High-lighted items have "Reload" amounts that the Ticket Vending Machine will accept.
- Other amounts listed will need to be rounded up to the nearest 5 cents for the TVM to accept the transaction. If this is done, a small amount will be left on the card on your last swipe (less than 5 cents).
- Otherwise the odd amounts can be added by a MTA Booth clerk.
On April 21, 2019 the MTA stopped the bonus program; the app will no longer take this into account.
