The Cosmos on Your Wrist
From the developer of SkyHalo™ Weather, StarHalo™ is not just a watchface; underlying it is an app offering a complete celestial guide. Designed for newbies, professional and amateur astronomers and anyone who marvels at the night sky, StarHalo™ brings the universe to your wrist.
StarHalo's™ real-time morning and evening skies, sun and moon reflect the beauty and colors of the twilight sky. Even if you never use any of its astronomical features, StarHalo™ is one of the most beautiful watchfaces available for Wear OS.
But that's just the beginning! Some of the features that make StarHalo a must-have for astronomers, celestial navigators and astronomy enthusiasts include:
1. Sky Map: StarHalo's™ dynamically-generated real-time sky map is based on your location and time. Whether you’re in a light-polluted city or a remote wilderness, StarHalo™ reveals the moon, planets, stars and constellations above you. A glance at the planisphere will show you not only the current star map with constellations and Milky Way, but:
— The Moon: Day or night, StarHalo™ displays the current moon in its location and orientation in the sky, along with phase from crescent to full and back to new moon. Tapping the Moon icon displays the precise times of the day's moonrise and moonset, percentage lit, days until the next phase, and the moon's continuously-updated Right Ascension, Declination, azimuth, altitude and compass direction. Looking to capture a photo of the soon-to-be-rising moon? StarHalo™ will tell you precisely where and when to aim your camera.
— The Sun: Tap the Sun icon to plan your day with accurate sunrise and sunset times. For astronomers, the display also includes the sun's continuously-updated RA/Dec, Az/Alt and compass direction, as well as the current Julian day and both Greenwich Mean and Local Sidereal Times (GMT/LMST). Its accuracy assures that StarHalo™ will alert you to the possibility of solar or lunar eclipses at your location.
— Planets and Nebulae: Tapping the Planet or Nebulae icons tells StarHalo™ to display the current positions of all of the planets (except Pluto — we don't talk about Pluto) and the Messier objects, as well as their current RA/Dec, Az/Alt and compass direction — ideal for astrophotography or for planning the evening's stargazing.
— Comets: Future releases of StarHalo™ will include the real-time positions and brightness of visible comets (as they are discovered).
For planetary conjunctions, double-tapping any spot on the planisphere will display a magnified view of that region (including the moon, sun, planets and Messier objects within that view).
Despite the wealth of information and depth of calculation, we've striven for maximum battery efficiency; StarHalo™, in fact, may use less battery than the time-only watchface you're now using.
Why Choose StarHalo™?
BEAUTY: Optional real-time daylight display replicates the sky color from daytime through sunrise/sunset, gradually reddening and darkening as twilight deepens and the stars come out — creating one of the most beautiful watchfaces we've seen.
PRECISION: StarHalo™’s algorithms calculate celestial positions with utmost accuracy, ensuring you never miss a cosmic event. We use astrometry equations developed by the U.S. Naval Observatory, the Royal Observatory at Greenwich, the JPL and the International Astronomy Union (IAU), and planetary theory (VSOP87) from the Bureau des Longitudes in Paris, among other sources.
CUSTOMIZATION: Personalize StarHalo™ by choosing what to display (sun, moon, planets, stars, constellation lines), dark sky or real-time sunrise/sunset and twilight, and the color of the watchface's digital elements for day or night use — including a red-only option to preserve night vision.
COMPATIBILITY: StarHalo™ works seamlessly with all Wear OS smartwatches. Tested on Wear 2.0 through the upcoming Wear 5.0.
StarHalo™: A celestial journey that fits right on your wrist!
Recent changes:
— In the magnified view, you can now fine-tune the chart's direction to point exactly where you need. If the area in which you're interested is too far towards one side, double-tap that area and the chart will be re-centered there. You can do this as often as necessary.
— We've updated all libraries to ensure compatibility with upcoming Android versions, and for compliance with Android 15, (regrettably) incremented the minimum SDK level of the phone app from SDK 23 to SDK 24.
