The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) Tails n' Scales app is an electronic reporting system that will be used to record all Red Snapper landings in Mississippi. All captains or owners of recreational and for-hire vessels landing Red Snapper in Mississippi must report their catch.
The purpose of this electronic reporting system is to collect information on all recreational Red Snapper landings in Mississippi to provide fishery managers the best available data to ensure Mississippi anglers the most opportunities and greatest flexibility for fisheries harvest.
Users can also access the system online at www.tailsnscales.org. The goal of this app is to allow for quick and easy reporting.
Anglers will be required to register with their name, email and state vessel registration number or USCG vessel documentation number. Once registered, anglers must request a trip number for any trip on which they intend to target Red Snapper. New trip numbers will not be issued until previous catches are reported.
The required information collected at the end of each trip includes: landing location of vessel, the number of anglers, time spent fishing, the number of Red Snapper harvested and the area fished (natural bottom, rig, or artificial reef).
