This is intended as DevArt or perhaps a trance toy, for meditating on the nature of sound.
Inspired by Cymatics but not meant to be scientific it was originally created as an installation piece in the 1980s. I have since ported it to various platforms as a tool for meditation...I feel that looking at these ancient patterns while listening to music or ambient sound helps train the mind see to matter as vibration.
I designed it for tablets but it also works well on phones, it requires opengl es 2.0 and a decent processor, I admit it is a battery hog.
It uses the default mic, swiping left and right changes the complexly, up and down the persistence and a single tap toggles between color and gray scales. Each time you change to color mode it picks a new starting set of colors and evolves them randomly.
Recent changes:
Reduced memory consumption and better handling of orientation.
